VALL D’OR GOLF REOPENS

Vall d’Or Golf reopens its doors!

We are pleased to inform you that Vall d’Or Golf will at last open again on Monday, May 11th, 2020 after the forced closure of its facilities on March 15th as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

During all this time, thanks to the effort of the tiny group of gardeners in charge of carrying out a minimum of maintenance services, we have been able to carry out basic tasks as important as mowing; supervision and control of irrigation and diseases. Not without effort, we have also carried out the spiking of the greens and the fundamental replanting of the fairways, – which we have already completed in its entirety -, with the only exception of the five par 3s of the course that we plan to complete over the course of the next few days.

In the same way, we have adapted our facilities and services in order to comply with the safety and prevention regulations recommended by the health authorities with the sole objective that you may enjoy playing golf in the safest way.

We remind you that it will be essential to book your greenfee in advance, either by phone (+34 971837001) or by email to reservas@valldorgolf.com. The initial opening hours will be from 8:30am to 8pm.

We enclose a brief summary of the measures adopted and we sincerely hope to receive you very soon at Vall d’Or Golf.

“Spiked greens”What does that stand for?

Many players are told “the greens are spiked” or “next week we will spike the greens” But do they actually kno what that means, and why this work is essential to the survival of the greens?

Today we ask Tolo Matemales, Greenkeeper of Vall d’Or, why it is so important that the greens get spiked and sanded.

“The benefit of spiking the greens is to alleviate compaction, allowing water and nutrients to enter the root system and to allow oxygen exchange to promote healthy turf grass. It consist in “spiking” the greens with thousand of tiny holes, approximately the size of a pencil that travel 3 1/2 inches into the soil, afterwards it is necessary to practice a light top-dressing of sand. Let me show you with a brief video: see video

See you soon,

Tolo Matemales
