Discover Cala d’Or, the paradise that surrounds Vall d’Or Golf

Cala d’Or, bathed by the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean and surrounded by the intense green of Mallorcan nature, stands as a unique destination for lovers of sun, beach, and tranquillity. This charming town, located on the southeast coast of the island, invites you to immerse yourself in an earthly paradise where dream beaches, unspoiled coves and endless activities combine to create an unforgettable holiday experience. If you want to know more, read on.

What is Cala d’Or like?

Cala d’Or will surprise you with its unique architecture. The buildings are no higher than two storeys, maintaining a traditional style that blends in seamlessly with the natural surroundings. The construction of the hotels is regulated in order to preserve the essence of the place, even with a curious cubic shape that characterises many of them.

Divided into three neighbourhoods: the centre of Cala d’Or, Cala Ferrera and Cala Egos, it has all kinds of facilities and attractions for the entire family. A mini-train runs through the area, allowing visitors to discover its charming corners.

A refuge for sea lovers

The heart of Cala d’Or beats to the rhythm of its beaches. Cala Gran, with its fine sand and turquoise waters that blend into the horizon, is the ideal place for families with children. Cala Ferrera, with its rocky outcrops rising out of the sea and its deep waters, will attract snorkelling and scuba diving enthusiasts, while Cala Esmeralda (also known as Caló des Corrals), with its intimate and cosy atmosphere, will seduce those seeking a haven of peace and tranquillity. And if you’re looking for a different experience, the natural swimming pool between the rocks of Cala Egos will surprise you.

What to see in Cala d’Or?

In the surroundings of Cala d’Or you will find a wide variety of activities for all tastes. Walk the trails of the Mondragó Natural Park and observe the diversity of birds, discover the beauty of Cala Figuera or enter the famous Caves of Drach, where an impressive classical music concert is held inside.

The village of Santanyí is also worth a visit. Its traditional street market, held on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, offers you the opportunity to buy local produce, clothes, and handicrafts. In Cala d’Or itself, there is also an evening street market on summer Sundays.

Beyond the sea

A stay in Cala d’Or would not be complete without exploring its fascinating history. Es Fortí, an imposing 18th century fortress in the Cala Egos neighbourhood, will take you back in time. Its original cannons still face the sea, a reminder of the battles fought to defend the coast. From its walls, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Mediterranean and take pictures of the sunsets.

For nature and history lovers, a visit to the Sant Salvador monastery is a must. Located at the top of the Sierra de Levante, at an altitude of more than 500 metres, this monastery offers spectacular views of the mountains and the sea. A two-and-a-half hour walk takes you from the monastery to the ruins of Santueri Castle, an ancient fortress where you can learn more about the region’s past.

How to play golf on windy days: tips and benefits

Golf is an outdoor sport and therefore exposed to the weather. Sometimes the weather can be our ally, but at other times it can be our enemy. One of the most influential factors in the game is the wind, which can alter both the trajectory of the ball and our concentration.

However, playing golf on a windy day doesn’t have to be a nightmare. With a few adjustments to our technique and strategy, we can use the wind to our advantage and enjoy a good game. Playing in the wind also has its benefits, helping us to improve our swing, our creativity, and our confidence. In this article, we will give you some tips for playing golf on windy days, so take note.

Tips for playing golf on windy days

Adapt your choice of club

The wind can make the ball fly more or less, depending on whether you are upwind or downwind. It is therefore critical to pick the right club for each situation. As a general rule, use one club less than usual when the wind is blowing downwind and one club more than usual when the wind is blowing against you. This will give you more control over the height and distance of the ball.

Reduce ball spin

The wind can also alter the spin of the ball, causing it to veer more than expected. To avoid this, try to hit the ball with the centre of the clubface without using too much force. A good trick is to add another club and take a soft and controlled swing, known as a punch shot. This will reduce the spin of the ball and keep it lower and more stable.

Use the wind to your advantage

The wind is not always an obstacle, it can be an advantage if you know how to use it. For example, if the wind is blowing from left to right, you can play the ball to the left and let the wind carry it towards the target. The same applies if the wind is blowing from right to left. Of course, you have to be aware of the possible obstacles and hazards on the course and always play it safe.

Modify your posture and grip

Wind can also influence your balance and feel in the club. Adjust your stance and grip to the wind conditions. When the wind is blowing against you, your stance should slow down the ball a little, put more weight on your front leg and grip the club a little tighter. If the wind is blowing downwind, you should bring the ball forward a little, distribute your weight evenly and relax your grip a little.

Don’t forget the putt

The wind can also affect the putt, especially if it is strong and gusty. In this case, you must consider the direction and strength of the wind and adjust the power and line of your putt. When putting upwind, you should hit the ball with less force and aim closer to the hole. When putting downwind, you should hit the ball harder and aim further away from the hole. In both cases, it is better to use gentle strokes than aggressive strokes.

Benefits of playing golf on windy days

Playing golf on a windy day can be a challenge, but also an opportunity to improve your game and have fun. Here are some of the benefits of playing in windy conditions:

  • Improve your swing: The wind forces you to be more precise and better control the impact and flight of the ball. By practising different types of strokes, such as punch, draw or fade, you will improve your technique and consistency.
  • Stimulate your creativity: The wind makes you think more and look for solutions to every situation. By varying your club choice, stance, grip and strategy, you will develop your creativity and ability to adapt.
  • Build your confidence: The wind will test you and push you out of your comfort zone. By overcoming the obstacles and challenges the wind presents, you will increase your confidence and self-esteem.

Come and test yourself at Vall d’Or Golf

If you want to put these tips into practice and enjoy the benefits of playing golf on windy days, we invite you to visit the golf course of Vall d’Or Golf, located on the east coast of Mallorca, just a stone’s throw from the beautiful cove of Portocolom.

Renovation of Bunkers in Vall d’Or

Everything to continue being the paradise to enjoy Golf in Mallorca

Do you know the importance of bunkers in golf?

  1. Strategic challenge: bunkers are placed on the course to add an additional challenge to golfers. Their presence forces players to carefully plan their shots and execute precise strategies to avoid obstacles and reach the green effectively.
  2. Aesthetics and design: they not only add a decorative touch to the course, but also improve the visual variability of the terrain.
  3. Course protection: Bunkers play a practical role in protecting specific areas of the course, around the green or in more critical areas. They act as natural barriers, preventing golf balls from leaving the course or protecting sensitive areas, thus helping to maintain the integrity of the course design.

Don’t worry, the wait will be short

Since last Monday, November 20, we have been working on the renovation of all the bunkers on the course. This process will force us to close alternatively 9 holes until December 20, 2023, as well as from January 10 to February 11, 2024. We will start the year with renovated facilities and a better golf course.

All with the clear goal of offering you the best playing experience. At Vall d’Or we are working hard to ensure that our bunkers are the best they can be, so that you can enjoy a round of golf in the best conditions.

If you need more information, have any questions or want to book now the date for your next round of golf, we will be happy to assist you through our phone (+34 971 837 001) or our email (
